Celebrating Our 42nd Year of Bringing Joy to Children

“Miracle on 31st Street is a Christmas Celebration for children who live in some of Tucson’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods."

HISTORY OF A MIRACLE

It started 42 years ago with Ramon Gonzales, a retired sheet metal worker, took $125 from his own pocket to host a Christmas Eve party for the neighborhood children on his street. The party was held at his house on 31st Street in South Tucson.

(Hence the name, “Miracle on 31st Street”.)

Gonzales lives in a small stucco home, and initially he cooked hot dogs in the backyard, but today he gets a little help from his friends. While Ramon and his wife Carmen still are the driving force, in the true spirit of giving, other community volunteers (more than 100 community members), join in to help. 

A few years ago “Miracle” became is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization, with no paid staff. The Board and the more than 100 people who come together every year are all volunteers.

This year, The Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council has generously donated the use of the Casino Del Sol's AVA Outdoor Theatre for the more than 10,000 children we are expecting to attend the event.
